Suggested Changeover times for Foundation and Specialty trainees.

 

NAMPS (National Association of Medical Personnel Specialists) has again been asked to suggest changeover dates, to try to ensure consistency across the country.

The reference “The start dates for SHOs” advice available on www.dh.gov.uk - published 24/01/2001) has been taken as the initial template.

 

Suggested Changeover Dates during 2007-2008.

Commence 1st Foundation 1 placement {Note that many Trusts are offering local shadowing, and F1s could start earlier as part of local arrangements} Tuesday 5th August 2008
Commence F2
Commence ST1-first placement		   1st Wednesday in August
(6th August 2008)
ST2
ST3 for Paeds / Psych		 These can follow on for the August change, or Specialty Schools may wish to move on some of the doctors throughout the year at other times…depending upon course start times, completion of appraisals, etc.
F1, F2, ST1, ST2 3 month placement Weds 7th November 2007
F1, F2, ST1, ST2 3 / 6 month placement Weds 6th February 2008
F1, F2, ST1, ST2 3 month placement Weds 7th May 2008
F1, F2, ST1, ST2 4 month placement Weds 5th December 2007
F1, F2, ST1, ST2 4 month placement Weds 2nd April 2008
ST3, ST4, and above SpRs who are already in SpR training For patient safety, it is suggested that the current doctors retain their previous change times of September / October, to enable more experienced trainees to be on duty to help the new Foundation and Specialty 1 and 2 trainees during the first weeks of their new jobs in August 08.
ST trainees at a higher level may change at times throughout the year other than August, depending upon local / national times organised by the Specialty Schools.
