Study Leave

The GP school has agreed guidance on which sorts of courses will be funded for those training to become GPs . The following links provide:

  • Details the sort of stand alone courses that are provided by the difference schemes in Yorkshire and the Humber
  • Please note there are now limits in the amount that can be reimbursed for accommodation in line with the Deanery PGMDE committee guidance. Accommodation is limited to £55 per night. We also advise that tickets for travel are booked as near as possible to the time the course is booked in order to keep travel costs to a minimum.

Process for Booking Courses (West Yorkshire Locality)

Prior to each seminar you will be sent an email from Leanne Sorby informing you of the upcoming seminar.

The email will contain information about the seminar. This will include the date, venue, pre-course work (if applicable) and a programme.

Also attached will be an application form. This will need to completed and returned to Leanne Sorby as instructed in the email to book a place. 

Applications are dealt with on a first come first served basis up on receipt of an application form.

As per the Deanery process we require new and up to date information for every application form which is submitted.   As such an application form should be submitted even if you have submitted another application form for the same seminar but on a different date previously.  Your previous application form will not be valid.

The White Hart Hotel, Harrogate (HG2 0NF)
The Course focuses on Common and Serious conditions that may present as an emergency in the Primary Care setting. It should enable GPR’s to be well prepared prior to attending sessions with their Clinical Supervisor in Out of Hours (OOH) Care. The Course itself has the following broad educational aims for GPStR:
1.  To be able to recognise serious symptoms and manage emergency conditions presenting in daytime and OOH
2.  To develop Telephone Consultation Skills in order to Triage Calls
3.  To be able to make appropriate outcome / referral decisions (Patient Disposal)
4.  To deal with some of the challenging patient scenarios that may present in the Unscheduled Care setting

1st March 2012 Half Day Telephone Consultation Skills Course - Local RCGP Faculty Run
Park Inn, York
GPs, Nurses, Allied Primary Care Clinical Professionals who wish to extend their own consultation skills

17th April 2012 CSA Course - Local RCGP Faculty Run

An RCGP accredited Course using cases provided by the college which will give participants a chance to practice their CSA technique and gain feedback from RCGP examiners.
This will be the last course before the exam in May.

It is not open to all Trainees.  Please speak with your TPD if you have any queries regarding the process in which Trainees are invited to this seminar.

At the seminar you will have a chance to practise your consultation skills with simulators. In order to have assessors for all of the cases, we need to have trainers as well as GPStRs on the seminar - so please encourage your trainer to apply as well (both GPStR and Trainer apply on the same application form).
If your trainer is unable to attend with you please try and find an alternative Trainer / TPD to accompany you to the seminar.
All trainers will be paid a resource fee of £389.
Please read the 'RCGP CSA Information for Candidates' document which is downloadable from their website.
Please ensure you bring all the equipment which is listed in the document to the seminar.
New Cases have been devised so these will be used on the day.
