Our region
Training within the School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology takes place in North and East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. This large region spreads from Scarborough to Scunthorpe and Halifax to Hull, embracing Leeds and Sheffield and a population of about 5 million patients! Within it are urban conurbations and many rural areas (the Peak District, Dales and Moors, and the spectacular East Coast). There are numerous cultural and sporting opportunities, and historic sites (the photos that illustrate some of our pages demonstrate this well). Further details can be found on the 'Yorkshire Visitor' and ' Yorkshire Dales' websites.
Our responsibilities
Schools have been established in Deaneries around the country to work in liaison with the Royal Colleges and the hospital trusts, to deliver the new curricula to the highest possible standard (monitored by the GMC). Our structure includes Training Programme Directors (TPDs) who chair Training Committees containing representatives from each hospital, plus trainee representatives.
The training is underpinned by our Systems of Induction, Appraisal and Annual Review (ARCP), together with workplace-based assessments and use of the e-portfolio. We consider this website to be a vital link in the communication between the School and our trainees, and hope that you will enjoy exploring some of our pages.
