School of Psychiatry

Recruitment and Allocation

The School takes part in national recruitment for intake to CT1 and ST4 which is co-ordinated by the Royal College of Psychiatrists

Other vacancies may be available at various levels. If you are interested in a post in Psychiatry but no vacancies are advertised contact the Head of School by email and she will let you know when they will be available.

Allocation of posts

The School of Psychiatry allocates into local training programmes by trainee preference with those who score highest in the interviews being offered the first choice. Please give your choice of scheme some thought before your interview as you will be asked for your preferences then.
We are sympathetic to those with domestic responsibilities and try to allow intradeanery transfers when they are requested so that trainees can move between schemes within the deanery.
Within training schemes TPDs are responsible for the allocation of posts. Trainees are given as much choice as possible but the training needs of all the doctors on the scheme are the greatest influence on post allocation.
