Hull and East Yorkshire Radiology Training Scheme

 

Welcome to the Hull and East Yorkshire Radiology Training Scheme webpages.

 

The scheme is one of the most compact in the UK with an annual intake of 4 StRs and a current establishment of 20 trainees. The training it provides is up there with the best and the scheme is one of the few in the UK with unconditional GMC approval.

 
The scheme’s small size means that most of the training can be provided centrally. This allows excellent working relationships to be established and developed between trainees and trainers. A training apprenticeship culture is maintained. Distances between training centres are generally short and traffic light, allowing more time to take full advantage of the available opportunities for learning.

 

Full time clinical training attachments start after only 4 months and all subspecialties are covered. There are adequate facilities to access all currently available e-learning tools and a small state-of-the-art dedicated study suitehas recently been opened.

 

A limited number of specific training attachments take place in 2 acute hospitals in North Yorkshire that are part of the scheme - York District Hospital and Scarborough General Hospital. These provide valuable experience of radiology in different departments, with their own trainers, case mix and working practices. Such experience is always much appreciated by the trainees.

 

Higher training attachments are provided within the scheme during the 4th and 5th years. The relatively small number of trainees means that higher training can be tailored to suit their individual needs and career aspirations.
