Foundation Programmes
The introduction of a two-year Foundation Training Programme which was implemented nationally in August 2005, lies at the heart of the Modernising Medical Careers initiative and forms the basis for the reform of the PRHO and SHO training Grades.
The Foundation Training Programme forms the bridge between medical school and specialist/general practice training. It comprises of a series of 4 month placements in a variety of healthcare settings and is designed to provide a general overview of clinical specialties to enable trainees to make more informed decisions about future career choices.
Applicants apply via an online national application system and rank the UK foundation schools in order of preference. Please click here to view the number of applicants who chose the South Yorkshire Foundation School as their first choice for the 2008 Foundation Programme.
