Welcome to the School of Emergency Medicine site
Emergency Medicine training in Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery has a proud heritage - we have the longest established training scheme in Emergency Medicine in the UK. The inauguration of the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery School of Emergency Medicine, in July 2009, brings together training departments from across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire to make the largest training scheme outside the capital. The newly established School enables us to combine the very best training in our region and thereby build on the achievements of the past. We aim to enable our trainees to realise their full potential in their professional life. By encouraging and supporting development of the very best Emergency Medicine specialists of the future - we will contribute to the improvement in the health of our population. In our discipline we often have the privilege to care for people in their moment of greatest need. Emergency Medicine specialists trained in the Yorkshire and the Humber deanery are fully prepared to provide highly expert care and make a difference to people's lives.
The Yorkshire and Humber Deanery School of Emergency Medicine covers a population base of 5.5 million with 1 million attendances to emergency care annually. It has around 120 trainees in core training and around 72 higher specialty trainees. Our region has a tremendous diversity of places to live and work - from exciting, culturally diverse urban centres to some of the most beautiful countryside anywhere. It is possible to be climbing a beautiful peak in a national park or running on a deserted beach in the morning and joining a busy shift in a state of the art ED in the afternoon. We have thriving research training programmes, centres of training excellence and the opportunity to sub specialise in all the recognised disciplines allied to EM. There is the opportunity to reach your full potential here, as well as striking a work life balance that can allow you to really unwind and explore the interests you may not have prioritised in getting to where you are now. EM as a career is immensely rewarding, but tough. You need to be resilient. There are benefits from training somewhere you can find space to breath.
