Medical Defence / Indemnity

All doctors have a professional responsibility to ensure you are indemnified for your full scope of practice as a doctor. As a reminder, their guidance on this is here. Whilst in hospital posts you are covered by the clinical negligence scheme for trusts (CNST) and whilst in GP by the clinical negligence scheme for GPs (CNSGP).

For all GP trainees, HEE also arrange access to free MPS top-up indemnity which includes the below benefits for work and activities related to GP training. Please note you must OPT IN to this cover.

Membership benefits

  • medicolegal advice - putting you in contact with experts and fellow doctors, including 24/7 in an emergency
  • support and legal representation – in case you face a regulatory, police, coroner or disciplinary problem or investigation
  • claims indemnity – protecting you financially for any clinical negligence claims related to work undertaken during training which are not covered by NHS indemnity
  • a wide range of additional support - including member journal Casebook, essential skills training and an independent counselling service.

To opt into this additional MPS cover please follow the instructions you will have recieved from MPS before your training commenced. If you cannot find this email please register here
