Ophthalmology

My name is Vernon Long and I am the Head of the Yorkshire and Humber School of Ophthalmology. Congratulations if you have successfully obtained a resident Ophthalmology post here! I know how hard they are sought after.

We welcome all postholders to Yorkshire and hope you have a wonderful time and an enriching training and social experience here. We look forward to supervising your training and watching your competencies and skills develop during your years with us.

The school does require a commitment from you to work in Yorkshire for at least seven years.

We provide excellent Ophthalmology services and training across a very large geographical area.

You will meet wonderful colleagues who will become friends for life.

Please also consider attending and joining the North of England Ophthalmology Society of their educational meetings.  The Brian Harcourt fund is a charity that helps fund educational attainment for healthcare staff for the benefit of the Yorkshire population.

There are copious opportunities to educate, train, perform research, carry out simulation, operate and develop level 4 competencies in Ophthalmology and Visual Science that will equip you with a specialist consultant level skillset.

Enjoy yourself In Yorkshire, it is a great place to be.

Vernon Long
