The NHS was the first healthcare system to integrate a net zero target into legislation via the Health Care Act 2022.This places duties on NHS England, all trusts, and integrated care boards to contribute towards statutory emissions and environmental targets. Work is required to communicate existing initiatives with healthcare professionals and service users and to address how medicines more generally contribute to carbon emissions and how this could be addressed. Healthcare professionals who prescribe, administer and supply medicines must have access to appropriate educational support to enable them to deliver safe and effective services whist considering the contribution to the NHS net zero ambitions. This CLF post will support this agenda through scoping, engaging stakeholders and developing and piloting relevant educational interventions.
