Participation in quality improvement is mandated in all postgraduate curricula for all junior doctors with GMC guidance stating that doctors “take steps to monitor and improve the quality of their work”1 . Despite these good intentions there are many well-publicised barriers to engaging junior doctors in quality improvement work such as the short time-scale of rotations, lack of support and poor knowledge of QI methodology2. The aim of this post is to tackle these barriers and further develop the quality improvement programme delivered at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for junior doctors. The fellow would be empowered to lead in this project, mastering skills in engagement and collaboration whilst also personally developing their knowledge of systems improvement. The goal of the project being to develop a sustained knowledge of QI methodology amongst junior doctors and also to facilitate their completion of meaningful improvement projects targeting patient safety and quality of care. 1.
