Documents:
The Recruitment Process

The General Practice National Recruitment Office (GPNRO) nationally co-ordinates GP Recruitment for all LETBs.

Please review the timetable to ensure that you are aware of deadlines and timescales for the round.

Applicants will need to apply through the application portal called ‘Oriel’ and ensure that they follow all instructions and answer all questions as honestly as possible. If your application requires further evidence, please ensure that you attach these documents to your application before you submit. Failure to provide evidence may result in your application being withdrawn. There is an applicant guide to help you and it is advised that you read this in advance of making your application.

Once applicants have progressed through this stage, they will be invited to Stage 2. This is a computer based assessment which takes place at an assessment centre. You will be invited to this stage by GPNRO and you will have to book onto your place online.

The last part of the process is the selection centre itself. This consists of a written paper plus three simulated exercises.

For further and detailed information about the recruitment process, please visit GPNRO’s website.

Vacancies

Health Education England working across Yorkshire and the Humber will have 354 vacancies across the region during the Round 1 recruitment process, which includes 10 TGPT posts. Rotations have been prioritised by the School of General Practice to be advertised first, based on local training need. Once these rotations are filled, the remaining will then be made available to applicants.

Please note that vacancies within some of the Schemes will attract a one off payment to the successful candidates. Details about this payment can be found here.

* New rotations for the three localities (West, East and South) are being developed so we can maximise the number of rotations that we can offer for GP training.

They are in addition to the rotations advertised solely for each GP training programme and will be made up of available posts within that locality. It may be that these posts will utilise posts within one of more training programmes within each locality in order to make up a GP training rotation. By basing them in a locality we aim to make sure that the rotations developed will be commutable for someone living in the area.

GP training programmes in the South Locality are Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Clumber Park

GP training programmes in the West Locality are Leeds, Airedale, Pennine, Bradford, Harrogate and Dewsbury/Wakefield/Pontefract

GP training programmes in the East are Hull, Scarborough, York, Northallerton and Northern Lincolnshire (Scunthorpe and Grimsby)

The East locality covers a large area and we will take care to make rotations there manageable with regard to the commutes required.

Round 1 is recruiting to posts commencing 7th August 2019. The start date of these posts cannot be changed unless you have an approved request to defer. Please ensure that if you are applying to these posts, you will be available to start on this date.

Deferments of posts that have been offered are possible but must be requested by way of submitting a request form as soon as the post has been accepted. Further details regarding deferring can be found on the GPNRO website.

Round 1 Rotations & Preferences

Preferencing for specific rotations in Round 1 will be taking place within the Oriel system, date to be confirmed.

The candidates will be asked to make their choices of rotations from a list that will be available once the hold and upgrade deadline has passed.

We will publish available rotations here when the details have been finalised.

When chosing the overall scheme that they will be allocated to (which is what the main offer we will for), each candidate is advised that they should only preference what they will be happy to work and the location. If a candidate does not want to preference certain areas or rotations there is no pressure to do so and are advised that it s best not to so to avoid being placed in an area that they cannot comute to for the duration of their training.

All vacancy information is indicative and subject to change at any time.

Programme Information

Rotation Details

Rotation details will be circulated after the offers part of the recruitment process has completed (after the holding deadline), but an initial copy of this can be found here. Candidates will be able to choose the specific rotations which they would like to be made an offer to. The candidate will be able to preference as many or as few as they would like to depending on their own circumstances.

Training Locations

GP Training in Yorkshire & the Humber takes place within Schemes. Below is the list of the Schemes and the Trust locations that fall within their boundaries. The Schemes also include (although not listed below) the GP Practices which fall within their geographical boundaries and have been approved as training locations.

Please note that for 2019, a couple of Schemes have merged their boundaries for some of their rotations. These will be clearly listed on the preferencing list (to be circulated as mentioned above).

ATCF and Deferrals

Deferrals

Candidates applying to GP in 2019 are able to request to defer their start date by up to 12 months for reasons above and beyond statutory reasons.  After the offers process has completed, candidates will be sent a form to complete and return. The forms will then be sent onto a panel to be considered and approved/declined. Requests made after the deadline will not be considered, so the candidate must make sure that they submit the request.

Accreditation of Transferable Competencies Framework (ATCF)

Candidates applying to GP in 2019 are able to have their time in training shortened by 6 months if they have completed at least one year in a recognised approved training programme from a specific list that has been laid out by COGPED and can be found here.

Candidates must ensure that they select this request on their application form as retrospective requests cannot be considered.

Further stages of this process will only take place after the offers process has been completed. Each trainee that has selected this option on their application will be emailed with a form to complete and submit. The application will then be passed to a panel that will review each application against the national criteria, the outcome will be emailed to the candidate as soon as it is possible to do so.
