Overview
The Professional Support Service provides provide postgraduate doctors, dentists and public health practitioners in training (PGDiTs) with personal and professional support, and development opportunities. We are passionate about supporting PGDiTs, providing a person-centred, non-judgemental and empathetic approach to help you thrive in training and beyond.
Postgraduate training is demanding and it is absolutely normal - and beneficial - to access available support. In addition, you may experience specific circumstances for which you need guidance, be it problems with your health and wellbeing, behavioural or performance issues, developmental needs, or personal challenges. Whatever the context, Professional Support is here to provide you with the support you need throughout your training programme.
We believe that PGDiTs should be able to access support quickly, where they work. Because of this, we operate a devolved model of professional support, with Medical Education teams in our trusts at the heart. PGDiTs should always visit their local Postgraduate Education Centre first when they need assistance.
The Yorkshire and Humber Deanery Professional Support Service is here to bolster trusts' ‘first-line’ support by providing you with a range of resources and activities including, but not limited to:
- Coaching for any challenges or issues you may need to overcome or a problem you need to solve
- Funded counselling and psychological support services to support your health and wellbeing
- Career advice and tools to enable you to plan your career journey and your personal and professional development
- Guidance on available support pathways and resources for neurodivergent minds
- A programme of activities to give you the confidence to return to training safely after a period of time out
