A message from the Head of School, Dr Alex Pavlovic
Welcome to the Yorkshire & Humber School of Psychiatry!
Thank you for your interest in training with us. It is a privilege to lead a School rooted in a region of great variety, opportunity, and community. Whether you are local or joining us from elsewhere, we hope you find psychiatry training here professionally rewarding, personally enriching, and full of purpose.
Our region
Yorkshire & Humber is a remarkable place to train, work and live. From the wild moors of the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, to the rugged coastline of East Yorkshire, the region offers sweeping landscapes, outdoor escapes, and a chance to balance city and countryside life. Our cities — Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull and York — each bring their own character and vibrancy: major hospitals, universities, cultural institutions, music and theatre, cafés, and sporting life.
Commuting and travel are well served: we lie centrally in the North of England with excellent rail and road links to London, Manchester, the Midlands and Scotland — making it easy to travel further afield when needed.
We are proud that many of our trainees join us via local medical schools (Leeds, Sheffield, Hull–York) and regional rotations. But we always welcome colleagues from across the UK and beyond; whether you wish to stay local or explore wider horizons, our region offers flexibility and connectivity.
We look forward to meeting you, supporting your journey, and seeing you thrive in psychiatry training here in Yorkshire & Humber.
