Supporting PGDiTs as an educator or supervisor
Overview
As a Training Programme Director, Educational Supervisor, College Tutor, or other educator, you are often one of the people best placed to notice when a postgraduate doctor, dentist or public health practitioner in training (PGDiT) is struggling, and one of the people whose support can make the biggest difference.
The pages in this section bring together practical guidance to help you support PGDiTs effectively, including their wellbeing, disabilities and health conditions, and neurodiversity.
We hope this information helps you with recognising when a PGDiT may be struggling and when additional support may be needed, including knowing how to navigate the systems and services that exist to help, and the support you can access yourself.
Developing and enhancing your support skills
As part of our committment to supporting the development of educators and supervisors in Yorkshire and Humber, we commission an annual suite of development courses that are free to access by any post-CCT educator in the region. Our Development Courses for Educators and Supervisors include a range of opportunities to increase your awareness of different needs a PGDiT may have and to increase your confidence in applying appropriate tools and approaches to best support them.
Options include increasing your awareness of neurodiversity, disabilities, long-term health conditions and impairments, developing skills to create a psychologically safe workplace, gaining experience of having career conversations, understand how to support your own wellbeing as well as that of PGDiTs, and much more.
We refresh our course offering every year and recommend you regularly review our Development Courses for Educators and Supervisors page.
You can also subscribe to our monthly courses Bulletin to keep up-to-date with upcoming courses and new offers.
