Faculty Development
Educational Supervisors
An educational supervisor will be allocated to each registrar on commencing training.
The educational supervisor and the registrar should agree a learning contract at the beginning of the placement which specifies the registrar’s planned areas of work, the competencies each project is designed to address, and a review date when progress will be jointly assessed. Evidence of the learning contract and its regular review will form an important part of the registrar’s ARCP portfolio.
When a registrar is placed at a location separate from their supervisor, a location supervisor will also participate in the agreement of the learning contract.
For each area of work there should be a named project supervisor (who may also be the location/educational supervisor) who guides the registrar on a day-by-day basis.
There should be regular meetings between the registrar, the project supervisor, and the educational or location supervisor to identify and solve problems and review progress.
Please see the Faculty of Public Health website for more details on supervisors.
Academic Supervisors
The role of the academic supervisor is to support all academic work performed by the registrar. An academic supervisor will be allocated ideally in the closest academic centre to provide ongoing support during the Masters programme, Faculty Examination preparation and future academic work.
More information on the role of academic supervisors is available through the Faculty website.
