Career Refresh for Medicine programme

CaReforMe

CaReforMe has been developed to help support doctors who have had a break in practice, including those new to the NHS, return more easily and safely. It is a facilitative programme, meaning eligible doctors are still responsible for finding an appropriate post.

CaReforMe has been designed to be flexible, taking into account the differing nature and length of absence, as well as the speciality and experience of the doctor, to ensure that the individual can safely and confidently return and practice.

CaReforMe – Background and Guidance

CaReforMe website Guidance

CaReforMe has been developed to help support doctors who have had a break in practice, including those new to the NHS, return more easily and safely. It is a facilitative programme, meaning eligible doctors are still responsible for finding an appropriate post. The programme has been designed to be flexible, taking into account the differing nature and length of absence, as well as the speciality and experience of the doctor, to ensure that the individual can safely and confidently return and practice.

Health Education England will provide information, resources and educational support to make this process easier for both doctors and their employers. The programme’s educational support elements include access to e-learning, relevant courses and up to three days supernumerary time.

Please be aware that CaReforMe is not part of the COVID 19 vaccination team recruitment programme being run by NHS Professionals and we are unable to pass your details on due to Information Governance requirements. Apply for the vaccination programme here.

CaReforMe is also separate to the Medical Support Worker programme. To be eligible for CaReforMe, you must be registered with the GMC and have been out of practice for at least three months, or new to the NHS. You do not need to be GMC registered to apply for the MSW programme. Again, we are unable to pass applications on, but you can apply for the MSW programme here.

Doctors in a training programme who have taken time out can access our Supported Return to Training Programme.
