Parental Leave (including maternity, paternity and adoption leave)

Medical trainees are entitled to parental leave.

Further information about parental leave, informing your trust and support are available below.

Arranging Parental Leave

Medical trainees are entitled to parental leave.

Parental leave is arranged by the trainees employing trust. Each trust will have a parental leave policy, which provides further information.

Please contact Human Resources (HR) at your trust for further information.

Returning to Training

This is covered separately on the returning to training page.

Keeping in Touch Days

Trainees on maternity leave may attend up to 10 keeping in touch days without bringing their maternity leave to an end. This allows the trainee an opportunity to reintegrate themselves into work, prior to their full time return. The trainee will be paid their basic daily rate for the hours worked, less appropriate maternity leave payment, for those days.
If you are interested in attending Keeping In Touch days, please speak to your Training Programme Director and to your employing Trust.
