The UK faces accelerated healthcare demand and, in particular, for mental health services. People with mental illness and learning disability die on average 20 years younger than the general population and often live with chronic physical health conditions.

The 2020 NHS People Plan aims to increase recruitment of mental health clinicians and create innovative new roles to address the inequalities in the physical health of people with mental illness.  Strategies to address the challenge include the development of new roles, such as Physician Associates (PAs).

Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) has led the way on the recruitment, training & employment of PAs in mental health and this post, jointly funded by SHSC and Health Education England (HEE), seeks to build on this work.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop leadership skills and take forward this important work.  The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with senior leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds including senior clinicians, educators and academic leaders.  There will be the opportunity to develop strategic thinking, collaboration & innovation.

The Fellow will shadow colleagues at Trust, the Faculty of Advanced Practice SYB, HEE and the RCPsych to lead in the development of these projects.
