Number of Posts: 1

Post start date: August 2022

The aim of this post is to give a leadership fellow (LF) the opportunity to develop leadership competencies, behaviours and values by working on QI projects in neonatal cardiology in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The LF will focus on improving system performance and fostering attention to national policies by driving QI through collaboration with neonatal and cardiology teams by implementing innovative standards for the region. This will improve children’s health, reduce health inequalities and provide better joint up medical care in line with the NHS plan. Neonatal cardiology is one of the very few services in the NHS which does not have its own service standards as it operates under both neonatal and cardiac networks. The LF will be able to work with all stakeholders on developing neonatal cardiology service standards with the aim to bridge the gap between fetal and paediatric cardiology standards. The LF can also chose to work on additional QI projects of their own choice, such as addressing the current challenges trainees face to acquire neonatal cardiology competencies, developing standardised antenatal care plans for newborns with congenital heart disease, establishing a system for joint neonatal cardiac mortality reviews and auditing neonatal heart murmur referral pathways. The LF will have the opportunity to work closely with senior educators and managers including the HOS of Paediatrics, TPDs and the Y&H Congenital Heart Disease Network managers.
