The Pennine (Calderdale / Huddersfield) General Practice Specialty Training Programme encompasses a wide variety of practices, many in small towns and villages offering GP placement in urban, semi-urban and rural settings. Training practices are situated in Hipperholme, Wyke, Brighouse, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Kirkburton, Marsden, Paddock, Ripponden & Sowerby Bridge. Despite its Victorian industrial heritage the area is one of outstanding natural beauty and is well known for its musical, cultural and sporting traditions. Furthermore, you have ready access to the cities of Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds and Manchester with all that these super cities have to offer.


Pennine GP Training Programme has been delivering GP training for over 20 years. We have 70 Registrars in our scheme supported by over 28 Trainers, three Programme Directors, with an Associate Programme Director also in post, and two administrators.  We offer a variety of 6 month hospital posts at Calderdale and Huddersfield Royal during ST1 and ST2 allowing you to experience a wide range of specialties. In addition, the GP posts in ST2 are flexible, in that you can be released on a part time basis to experience a variety of specialties e.g. hospice care, dermatology, Refugee medicine. The Specialist Training Registrars will spend a minimum of 18 months in a General Practice setting and the remaining time in hospital posts.

We have induction courses to help you ‘settle in’ and throughout your training we run a weekly Half Day Release education programme which involves small group work and larger are not covered by workplace based placement workshops exploring areas of the curriculum which. In addition to its educational aspect it offers an opportunity to meet your colleagues, ‘chew the fat’ and compare experiences.

Your Out-of-hours experience is provided through Local Care Direct, Care UK and NHS Direct, the local out-of-hours providers.
