The number of oncology patients requiring the services ofour Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU) increases year on year. As our treatments for cancer become both increasingly successful and complex, so the number and average age of our patients increases. This clinical leadership fellow post seeks a motivated and enthusiastic individual to support the CAU in establishing a sustainable service design that meets the needs of local patients with cancer. The post will both analyse the workload of this specialist service and seek to further develop patient pathways. Projects will include the development of immunotherapy toxicity clinics and earlier recognition and intervention for frailty. The post-holder will implement quality improvement tools and methods in order to set about these changes. They will be supported to identify and achieve personal goals. There will be regular educational and leadership supervisor meetings and the opportunity to shadow and learn from senior medical leaders, to help gain a fundamental understanding of leadership roles and styles. They will collaborate with other clinical leadership fellows at Hull to bring about trust-wide quality improvement projects. The role will develop time-management skills and lead to a greater understanding of the wider NHS structure. The post-holder will also be afforded the opportunity to further develop their skills and self-awareness with a fully funded academic qualification incorporating a healthcare leadership component.
