GP Courses.

Process for Booking Routine GP Courses

Prior to each seminar you will be sent an email from the Education Events Inbox, the Education Administator, informing you about the upcoming event, and providing details on its content.

The email will also contain logistical information about the seminar. This will include the date, venue, pre-course work (if applicable) and a programme.

Also attached will be an application form. This will need to completed and returned to Leanne as instructed in the email to book a place. Applications are dealt with on a first come first served basis up on receipt of an application form

As per the GP School mechanism we require new and up to date information for every application form which is submitted. As such an application form should be submitted even if you have previously submitted another application form for the same seminar but on a different date. Your previous application form will not be valid.

Claims for travel expenses and course fees should be submitted via the trainee's Trust, following their local policy. 

Please note advanced bookings can not be taken.

Additional courses may be suitable throughout the GP training programme. 

AKT Study Skills

Who should attend: The course is aimed at those who have taken AKT once and failed it.

Aims of course: It allows reflection on, and ideas exchange around, preparation methods. There is minimal overlap with the local RCGP AKT course.

Length of course: One day

Frequency of the course: It’s held three times a year, approximately 6 weeks before the next sitting.

CSA Preparation

Who should attend: This is targeted at trainees thought likely to struggle with the exam. These trainees are identified by selection scores, performance in practice or at mock CSA.

Aims of course: The day involves exploring the exam and consultation issues in detail, followed by examiner and trainer observed simulations with feedback.

Length of course: One day

Frequency of the course: It is held throughout the year, in line with the exam sittings

Leeds Language

Who should attend: This course is for those who have graduated abroad and mainly offered to those in ST1.

Aims of course: It aims to improve general English conversational skills.

Length of course: Two day course (must attend both days)

Frequency of the course: Once a year in spring

Study Skills for Busy Doctors

Who should attend: The course is aimed at those who have taken AKT once and failed it.

Aims of course: Led by a psychologist and trainer with many interactive exercises this will help those who have failed AKT or CSA to harness their nerves and perform their best. It will also address the last 4 weeks of exam preparation.

Length of course: One day

Understanding General Practice

Who should attend: Offered in ST1 to those who have scored less well in selection-centre situational judgment tests. 

Aims of course: To help trainees to develop understanding of the context of UK general practice and develop a person centred approach to consulting.

Length of course: Two day course (must attend both days)

Frequency of the course: Twice a year - spring and autumn
