The Building The Leeds Way project is designing and building a brand new Tertiary Children’s Hospital, starting in 2023 and due to complete in 2026. This will allow a true joint front door model, led by Paediatric and Paediatric Emergency Medicine Services, for all unplanned attendances in children to the Trust. The specific aims of the project are to be actively involved in the design and layout of the new estate for a joint Children’s Emergency and Assessment Unit, which will include an Observation Unit and a short stay ward. Initial plans have already been drawn up but the discussions and modifications to these will be ongoing regarding a design which allows lean working with reducedwaste.to develop staffing models and rotas which combine staffing from the previous two units, to allow collaborative working, for all clinical staff roles including nursing ,medical and advanced care practitioners. To develop clinical care pathways which ensure children who present for unplanned care are managed by the right person the first time. These will be for common presenting complaints such as non blanching rash, limping children and fever in children and allow true SDEC models of working. To ensure there is a safe and robust governance and management process to oversee the new Unit.
