Leadership and Management
There is a Leadership and Management programme in place for Dental Speciality Trainees. This is a three year rolling programme and covers topic including:
- NHS Management
- Teaching the Trainers
- Critical Appraisal
- Management of NHS Training Programmes
- Teaching for Senior STRs
Sustainability Training
ST1s will attend Sustainability Training alongside Dental Core Training Year 2s.
The Y&H ‘Sustainability in the NHS’ Training Programme is in its 8th year since inception in 2017. It is still the leading sustainability training programme for dental trainees amongst the 4 nations, and we are proud to hold the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Beacon Site status which is accredited to gold standard training programmes.
Trainees in this programme receive intensive teaching on how the climate and environmental crisis is linked to health and healthcare delivery. They are taught how they, as clinicians, can reduce their environmental impact while maintaining or improving clinical care using Sustainable Quality Improvement (SusQI) methodology. This year’s trainees had only 7 months to prepare, implement and evaluate an intervention to reduce the environmental impact of care in their place of work, and these projects were presented before a panel of sustainable health trained clinicians and improvement experts. The judges were impressed with the quality of the presentations and the creativity and commitment shown by each and every trainee. I hope that Yorkshire’s future clinical leaders continue to consider the environment in their clinical decision making.

Within the Dentistry Directorate we use the course management system Maxcourse. All study days should be enrolled on before the study day.
After a study day, you will be asked to complete an evaluation form via a feedback module which can be found in the learning system. Once completed and your attendance has been registered, you will receive your attendance certificate.
Please find some guides below that will assist you during your training programme:
Maxcourse Accout Creation and Course Enrolment Guide
Accessing Certificates Through Maxcourse Guide
Registration QR Codes & Attendance Policy
You must register your attendance for all training events using the QR code provided. The QR code links to a Microsoft Form, which requires a course PIN issued by the facilitator at the end of the session.
Attendance must be recorded on the day of the course. Retrospective attendance registrations will not be accepted. Attendance records are used to update Maxcourse and generate CPD certificates. Any queries regarding attendance must be raised to england.dentalsupport.yh@nhs.net within four weeks of the course date. After this period, no appeals or amendments will be considered and your attendance status will remain as absent.
If you are unable to attend a study day (for example, due to sickness), you must use the QR code to record your absence and reason for non-attendance.
Failure to record attendance may impact progression within your training programme.
