Teaching & Training.

The programme provides training in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic surgery including Oesophageal and Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, with the exception of transplantation.  The programme follows the Cardiothoracic curriculum outlined on the ISCP website.  Progress in training will be monitored by the Speciality Training Committee on a six monthly basis at the end of each module through the ARCP process.

The current regional educational programme consists of half a day of education every month rotating throughout the different units in the region. This is Consultant led teaching and will use Problem Based Learning as well as having a substantial simulation component and wet lab sessions.

The Yorkshire Cardiothoracic Meeting is held biannually in rotation throughout the region and is a full day meeting with inter-professional teaching in the morning and presentations by trainees of research carried out in the region in the afternoon.

There is access to departmental, postgraduate and medical school libraries for all trainees as well weekly departmental teaching.

Study leave is available through the School for training courses and academic meetings. All trainees are encouraged and supported to attend national and international cardiothoracic meetings as well as local, regional and College and society Cardiothoracic Courses.
