Its central geographical position means London is less than 2 hours away with Edinburgh just 2½ hours by train. Its hospital is in the CHKS top 40 awards for 2009 and 2011 making York a great place to live and work.

Scarborough General Hospital

Scarborough and Bridlington Hospitals form part of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. They provide acute services to approximately 225,000 people over 2,000 square miles, with the complexity of contrasting populated and isolated geographical areas. The diverse range covers the seaside resorts of Bridlington, Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, and the huge rural areas of the North York Moors and East Yorkshire Wolds. The population greatly increases during the holiday season. Large numbers of people retiring to the coast results in a high population of elderly residents.

Scarborough Hospital is the Trust’s second largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma and intensive care services to the population and visitors to the North East Yorkshire Coast.

The Postgraduate Medical Education Centre is well equipped and delivers both local, regional and national teaching programmes and courses. There are excellent onsite simulation facilities. Training is offered in primary, secondary and mental health services covering the entire geographical area. The Trust works in partnership with Hull York Medical School (HYMS) and there is the opportunity to get involved in teaching medical students years 3-5.

Scarborough is a great place to live and work, located on the stunning Yorkshire Coast. It is one of the UK’s top tourist destinations, with the largest Open Air Theatre in Europe hosting many top musical events. It is a great place for outdoor pursuits, with easy access to the North York Moors for hikers, regular sailing and yacht races and a brand new waterpark. It hosts the UK Pro annual surf festival and has regularly featured as the finish to a stage of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race. Scarborough is a relatively inexpensive place to live and offers a wide range of quality accommodation at a reasonable cost. There is an onsite nursery for staff.
