The Foundation Directorate is led by the Foundation School Director/Deputy Dean (FSD/DD), supported by a Deputy Foundation School Director (DFSD) for each region and a dedicated administrative Programme Support team, based in the Hull office.
An exciting senior clinical faculty opportunity has arisen within the Yorkshire and Humber Foundation School for the role of Deputy Foundation School Director. The successful candidate will join the existing Foundation School Team and assume responsibility for the South Yorkshire region.
This post is for 3 PAs and will initially before 3 years, with a review to extend this post at the end of that term. This should be agreed by your Trust and be in your Job Plan.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction, quality management, faculty development, and stakeholder engagement for the South Yorkshire region.
- Work closely with Local Education Providers (LEPs), Sheffield Medical School, and the Programme Support Team.
- Line manage a proportion of Foundation training placements and trainees.
- Support Clinical Supervisors, Educational Supervisors, Training Programme Directors, and LEP-based administrators.
- Improve learner supervision, assessment, and experience, ensuring effective educational outcomes.
- Deputise for the FSD/DD at local or national meetings when required.
- Share responsibility for specific administrative functions within the Foundation School (see appendix in Job Description).
Key Duties
- Maintain strong relationships with UKFPO, LEPs (DMEs, MEMs, CSs, ESs, TPDs), and local medical schools.
- Support all Foundation Doctors, including those training flexibly, returning from breaks, or requiring adjustments.
- Promote equality of opportunity and positive attitudes to training.
- Oversee commissioning of training courses and recommend enhancements to regional programmes.
- Implement ARCP processes in line with NHSE guidance and the Gold Guide.
- Assist with appeals panels as required, ensuring equality and diversity compliance.

Postgraduate Dean
Foundation School Director / Deputy Dean
Commitment:
3.0 PAs per week (equivalent to 1.5 days).
This must be included in the DFSDs Trust job plan, within a total maximum of 12 PAs.
Tenure:
Initially a 3-year post with a review to take place after that time to support business continuity and succession planning.
