The Hull General Practice Specialty Training Programme covers a varied area, including the bustling maritime city of Hull, small attractive market towns like historic Beverley and the more rural Driffield, and extends out to the sea at Withernsea. There is the fascinating and ecologically important spit of land extending into the sea at Spurn point, and the gently rolling Wolds to explore with the North York Moors and a beautiful coastline in the surrounding area. Hull is a lively city. It has been transformed over the last decade, with important tourist sites such as the Deep, a newly built sports stadium and a new medical school, which opened in October 2003. Not to mention an entertainment scene boasting a variety of clubs as well as renowned theatres and classical concerts. London is only 3 hours away by train, with York, Leeds and Sheffield within an easy drive.

The middle year of Hull’s rotations is usually made up of 3 posts in 3 different medical specialties lasting 4 months each. In addition to the standard hospital jobs the Programme has enough innovative / combined posts to enable all Specialist Training Registrars to undertake one as part of their training.  These posts include specialties such as Palliative Care, Community Gynaecology, GUM and Dermatology, Ophthalmology and ENT. The half-day release programme is varied and well attended. The subjects are largely chosen by the Registrars and sessions focusing on tackling problem-based learning are also available. We are introducing a large number of inovative posts  for the August 2020 recruitment so watch this space
